These hot chocolate bombs are something that became a trend across the internet a while back and are a perfect way to add a little bit more fun into a festive treat.
These hot chocolate bombs are cute and help keep you warm when the weather turns cold!
Honestly, these were some of the easiest ones to make, the only thing that could possibly prove to be a little difficult would be getting the molds for them.
Just like with the skull cupcake molds, theses treats are ones that you need to have the right tools for. Fortunately, I found that getting ahold of the sphere molds for these guys was much easier than getting the skull-molds for the cupcakes. I bought them at the craft store Micheals, but I'm certain other craft stores and maybe even some grocery stores or supermarkets will have them there as well.
Apart from this, what you're going to need are some chocolate melts. I used milk chocolate for mine because I absolutely cannot stand the bitterness of dark chocolate! I also got some white chocolate melts so that I could add a bit of design on them, even if they did turn out a bit ugly, they still served their purpose!
You're also going to need some powdered hot chocolate mix or chocolate milk mix. I personally used the Swiss Miss chocolate powder, the kind with the mini marshmallows in it and it turned out great!
There's no exact measurements for this one, so just follow my instructions the best you can!
You're going to take the milk or dark chocolate melts and pop them in the microwave in 15 second intervals until the chocolate is nice and smooth. Don't keep microwave it for longer than that or you could burn your chocolate! Be careful when taking the chocolate out too, it can get pretty hot.
Once your chocolate is melted, take a spoon and spread it in thin coats into the molds. Wait for the first layer to harden and then add a second layer of chocolate to make the shell more stable and less fragile.
After both layers of chocolate are done, add the hot chocolate powder into one half of the molds, pop the empty shells out of the molds and attach them to the filled halves. You can do this a couple of ways, you can "glue" them together with some more melted chocolate or you can lightly heating up the edged of the empty shell so that it melts together with the other half.
Once this is done, you can either move on to decorating them or pop them into hot milk and enjoy them right away.
Personally, I tried to decorate them even it it didn't end up looking the nicest. I just heated up some white chocolate and tried to make a design haha.
